Upgrade 1 : Metalink reference

APPLIES TO:
Oracle Application Install - Version 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.3 [Release 11.5.10 to 12.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
GOAL
The purpose of this note is to give the guidance, the brief answers to these same (frequent) questions submited by The customers to Supports, related to the CPU/Critical Patches.

Nb: The note has been written a few years ago, why the example supplied was on EBS 11i.

Example of the questions
In TEST instance, I just finished CPU Oct 2005. As most patches, except for E-Business, are cumulative I ask the question :
Can I take the most recent April CPU 2008, apply those cumulative patches, and go back to the Jan 2006 CPU and apply E-Business patches, and come forward?

FIX
On 11i :
1)  On  EBS 11i,  the CPU patches are not Cumulative (opposite to ATG patches which are cumulative), you have to apply the CPU patches and forward.

 Example applying CPU patch 2005, 2006 ,2007, 2008  and until 2009.

The logical steps, customers should(must) apply the previous critical patch updates and Oracle security alerts related to Oracle E-Business Suite before applying the "last" critical patch update".

Please read the details, the extract from  The Note 557157.1.

2.3.5 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i Patches

Critical Update patches for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i are generally not cumulative, which means that fixes from earlier critical patch updates and  Oracle security alerts are not included in the patches.

Customers must apply   the previous critical patch updates and Oracle security alerts related to
Oracle E-Business Suite before applying this critical patch update.

For a list of earlier security alerts and CPUs related to Oracle E-Business Suite,  see OracleMetaLink

Note 315713.1: Prior Oracle E-Business Suite Security Alerts and Critical Patch Updates.

You should apply "any Oracle Applications Technology CPU patches" before  applying corresponding patches for other Oracle E-Business Suite products listed by versions.

The patch lists in Table 9 show the patches in this order, with Oracle  Applications Technology patches appearing first.

Example
=======
Read The  Note 315713.1, there is a special column there for "11.5.10.2". If the value is Y => You have to apply that CPU patch
2)Further details on Applying the CPU, Critical Patches, please review :Note.757511.1 Oracle Critical Patch Update Jan 2009 Documentation Map.

Note 783600.1 Title: About Oracle Applications Technology 11i.ATG_PF.H.delta.7

Note 233044.1 Title: About Oracle Applications DBA Minipack 11i.AD.I

Oracle Applications DBA minipack 11i.AD.I.7 (7429271) replaces Oracle Applications DBA minipack 11i.AD.I.6 (6502082). Minipack 11i.AD.I.7 contains 11i.AD.I.2 and patches 4502904, 4605654, 5161680, 6502079 and 7429248. If you have already applied 11i.AD.I.2, then, you need only apply patch 7429271 to update your system.

You can safely move from 11i.AD.I.2 to 11i.AD.I.7.

On R12.x :
1- Oppose to the 11i, in R12, The CPU Patches are cumulative.
See details in the Note 880170.1
Note: CPU patches listed in this knowledge document for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 (12.0 and 12.1), Oracle Database, and Oracle Fusion Middleware are cumulative, which means that fixes from previous Oracle security alerts and Critical Patch Updates are included. This is in contrast with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i, where CPU patches are not cumulative.
